I'm being impersonated...

Posted by B-RY-89 - October 17th, 2024

If it ain't obvious, I've made it somewhat clear I'd never come back to DeviantART. Ever.

To no surprise, I'm being impersonated behind my back.

From what I could find, some rando is stealing my identity, using a very old name I never use at all anymore.

From first impressions, you might think it's just a low-quality archive page, but digging deeper, it gets worse from there. Not only are they acting very immaturely (they're of the "logo-remaking" kind, a community I've left FOREVER ago, thank christ), but are verbally threatening people (one of their comments was a death threat, something I never wish upon anybody).

Since I kept my "no more dA" promise, I'm without many ways to report them, so I leave it you all to bring justice and take this account down. If that's not possible, please spread the word on there to anyone oblivious.

Wish you all luck,

Either click the DMCA-link or write an email to their support.

My only hope is to email them, which even then, that'll complicate things knowing how they are.
The real account I used to have (most recent name for it was B-RY-N) I've long since deactivated, since I was serious about leaving that site.
Unsurprisingly, this impersonation proceeds to happen not long after I've left the site.

@B-RY-89 You make this sound so complicated. I only know dA's specifics through hearsay on NG, but legally speaking they have to have a DMCA/Copyright-claim link where you can tell them to remove stuff. (The site behind it should look something like this: https://www.newgrounds.com/wiki/help-information/dmca-notice )

If they refuse, you get to offer them to see you in court and pay your lawyer's bill. If they uploader keeps claiming that this is their original work, the previous sentence applies to them instead - or their legal guardians. :3

Ok.

Yea, I'm sorry for making things sound more complicated than they are. It's just the risk(s) of it all, especially since I don't often have to deal with stuff like this happening. I never feel ready and kinda overreact, which I know shouldn't be my first instinct, but it's just how I function.

I know they're prolly just acting very immature and bratty to others (which has unfortunately become the norm for most of the logo remake community) just to piss ME off (and by proxy, twisting my reputation), but they should at least bear their own name and identity, and not steal a massive chunk of mine to lie to the oblivious (which said logo community is chock full of oblivious people).

I've done as much as draft the email for the Violation Reporting side of DeviantART, and will wait a bit to see if the impersonator takes the piss any further before I send it to them.
I would try to submit an actual support ticket, but that's behind an account/login lock.

I did not get a negative impression from talking to you. You are annoyed with a person who is falsely taking the credit for your own hard work. And annoyed at 'a service who profited from your presence' not caring about you.
Honestly: It would be a lot stranger if you were totally calm about this. ;)

Also, if it helps: I'm 95% sure that the emails and the reports filed on the site itself are landing on the exact same desktop(s). And having an email from them will be a lot easier to handle when you were to show this to a lawyer or file it as evidence in court. (Not that it would come to this. I'm more talking about it from a 'strategy game' point of view. #NotALawyer )

ok.
thanks for looking out for me.
it means a lot.
